SEABS was established in 1952 by Rev. Dr. Andrew Gih to answer the need for the lack of pastors in Indonesia at that time.

"I came to Indonesia empty-handed, with only faith in the Almighty God. If God is almighty, He can help us open this school."

REV. DR. ANDREW GIH

On his second trip from China to Indonesia, Dr. Gih met with several church leaders in Bandung who revealed that the lack of pastors was due to the scarcity of Seminary that could educate pastors in Indonesia. It was there that Dr. Gih was asked to start a theological school, and the request was replied with the famous saying: "I came to Indonesia empty-handed, with only faith in the Almighty God. If God is almighty, He can help us open this school."

Originally called the Southeast Asia Bible School, this theological school was founded in Bandung, then moved to Malang in 1954. In 1981, it changed its name to Southeast Asia Bible Seminary.

SOUTHEAST ASIA BIBLE SCHOOL

The seminary was originally located at No. 18, Kasin Kidul Road (now Arief Margono Road). In August 2007, the Seminary moved to its current location at No. 1, Bukit Hermon Road.

Over time, God has continued to bring His children called to serve Him to the Seminary. Starting with just three students, the number gradually grown to over 1,400 graduates spread across Indonesia and around the world.

Dr. Gih's words laid a solid foundation for Southeast Asia Bible Seminary in its journey to equip God's servants. It is by God's grace and providence alone that the Seminary can stand until today, fulfilling the vision to equip God's servants.

To this end God has helped us. The existence of the Seminary is a testament of the Almighty God who called Dr. Gih to establish this ministry, as well as to the many servants who continue to be raised up to carry on the baton of this ministry.

Soli Deo Gloria!
